On
March 16 in 1910, Sir Frederick Lugard has laid the first stone for the
University who is the Governor of Hong Kong. This University was incorporated
firstly in Hong Kong by University ordinance on the dated of 30th
March 1911 as a body of self-governing. University was initially opened on 11th
March 1912 and Engineering, Arts and Medicine were became first faculties.
Medical
faculty in the university was founded in 1887 from the college of Medicine. On
December 1916, this university had their first congregation with 23 graduates.
Women
were attended to this university after 10 year from the founding of the
University for Study Purpose. It was one of big achievement to the university
to increase their graduates. Since 1937, University selected the Queen Mary
Hospital as teaching hospital to complete the student’s practical trainings.
Before the Second World War, University started the four faculties as academic
activities such as Engineering, Arts, Medicine and Science.

After the Second World War (1945),
University focused on the structural developments as post-war reestablishment.
At present, University has acquired the
international recognition from their Research and developments areas as
research-led ample university. On 2003, This University was the first
university who has found the caused for SARS. Actually, Medical researchers
found out this causes for SARS. Medical faculty’s name was changed as Li Ka
Shing Medicine Faculty in 2005.
This University had celebrated its 100
anniversary from 2010 to 2012. On 2012, HK University officially announced the undergraduate
curriculum for 4 years accordance with the government education policy. After that
this university keeps trying to attract the skilled local students and best
international students. And also HK University has outstanding achievement for
teaching and research around all over the world. All the faculties in the
University provide supervision and teaching for PhD and MPhil students.
