The University of Maine campus is large but very easy to walk around. Most students live in residence halls only minutes away from academic buildings and the dining halls. The campus includes more than 24km of walking, hiking, biking or cross-country skiing trails, and was designed by legendary landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed Central Park in New York City.

The campus environment is safe, and always alive with student activities, sports, and lectures. It is home to 15 fraternities and 7 sororities. About 11% of students are involved in Greek Life.
